TOWER BARRACKS, Germany – Noncommissioned officers taking care of fellow Soldiers was at the forefront of this year’s U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria Holiday Assistance Program event at U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria on Nov. 21, 2024.

“As a noncommissioned officer I have two basic responsibilities: accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of my Soldiers,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Hermes Acevedo, USAG Bavaria. “This event allowed our NCOs the opportunity to showcase the love for our Soldiers, and to come together to accomplish the mission, before the holidays.”

New this year, the Army Emergency Relief partnered with the Defense Commissary Agency to distribute gift cards to deserving junior enlisted service members.

Just in time for Thanksgiving shopping, the Commissary opened its doors early so gift card recipients could get their shopping done early.

From turkeys, stuffing, pasta sauce and plates, more than 100 NCOs gathered earlier that morning to stock shelves to make sure the Tower Barracks Commissary was fully stocked.

“AER continues to help Soldiers and their Families in any way they can, not just through the holiday, but throughout the year with interest-free loans, grants, assistance during emergencies and basic living expenses,” said Mitch Morey, Army Emergency Relief officer with Army Community Service. “Taking care of Soldiers and making sure they have the things they need is especially important during the holidays.”
